7 Days of Holiday Care

7 Days of Holiday Care

As the holiday season approaches, many emotions can be bubbling up for you…some good, some not so good. It’s important this holiday season to stay true to you, let go of the expectations of others and don’t feed into the commercialized version of it…that is not the intended reason for the season.

Here are 7 recommendations that can make your season more enjoyable for YOU.

1.       Reflect & Celebrate

As we are coming to the end of 2022, it’s a great time to reflect on your past year.

We often forget to acknowledge the accomplishments that we have made in the past 12 months.

We can chalk it up to a ‘no, bid deal’ and move on to the next without some reflection & celebration…I’m also guilty of this.

2022 saw the move from my position in corporate to full-time in my mentorship practice. As exciting as it has been, it has not been without its own set of challenges. As 'prepared' as I was, I discovered routine is more important to me than I originally thought and has taken me a while to find my groove and I suspect it will be further refined in 2023…how does one go from working 12 hours/day to then trying to fill up their time? Tip: don’t fill up the time with busy stuff LOL

One massive win is that I get to be at home. Not having to travel and be away from home so much is amazing...more family time xxx

Allow yourself time for reflection on your year & celebrate your wins whether big or small, they all count.

 2.       Focus on Self-Care

There is some misconception about self-care out there, it’s not all about bubble baths & chocolate cake.

Don’t get me wrong, these are lovely things however, it’s more than that.

It’s asking for what you desire

It’s telling others what you need

It’s creating & respecting your own boundaries

It’s about speaking your truth, not someone else’s, YOURS

It’s about saying NO to those requests that are misaligned to make room for those that are a HECK YES!

It’s about taking care of yourself mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, & energetically.

Taking care of YOU will allow you to have greater ability to take care of others. Put on your oxygen mask first…always!

3.       Go Play Outside

Oh the great outdoors!

Whether the temperatures where you live allow you to be outdoors for 5 minutes or 5 hours, take some time to get some fresh air & sunlight.

It’s a great opportunity to reconnect, ground and have a little fun with mother nature.

We’ll be out building a snowman, if the snow ever arrives, and for sure taking a walk down by the river.

Never did I ever think, I’d be looking forward to snow LOL

 4.       Practice Gratitude

What we focus on we find…have you ever heard this saying?

It’s true

The Universe always responds to the words we speak whether that’s silently to ourselves or others, so let them be words of gratitude for the blessings in your life.

Each day, write out 3 things you are grateful for…be sure to utilize positive framing…point this to what you do have or desire, not what you don’t

Example: instead of, I’m so grateful that I don’t have to go to work…replace with, I’m so grateful for this vacation time.

If you’d like to take it up a notch, try this format.

I am grateful for xxx because xxx.

Example: I am grateful for the dishes in my sink because I was able to buy food and cook my family a lovely, delicious meal.

Now…that’s next level!

Give it a try

5. Develop New Traditions

Typically, traditions are passed down from generation to generation, which is great however, what if you could add your spin on those to change up your routine a bit.

What’s something you’ve always desired to do during the holiday season?

Camping out in your backyard?

Cooking some new types of foods?

Forgoing presents and going surfing?

Volunteering at your local community kitchen?

Wearing your pajamas ALL DAY!

Eating breakfast for dinner?

We'll be doing indoor camping this year...not sure about this one, at least we're going to be inside LOL

6.       Connect with Others

As humans, connection is fundamental & necessary…we are not meant to venture through this life alone.

Take some time this year to find ways to connect and see how you can help another as well.

Perhaps you could volunteer.

Strike up a conversation with a stranger, you just may be the best thing that happened to them today.

Pay someone a compliment.

Visit your local animal shelter here is a win-win, they are going to love to make a connection with you as much as you them.

Or how about, re-connecting with yourself???

7.       Reach out for Support

It’s ok to not be ok — you’re not alone.

If this holiday season is too much to handle, reach out for help.

There are many support resources available to you…do a little research ahead of time to find those local to your area.

Let’s also do our part to take care of each other.

If you notice a family member, friend, or co-worker that may be struggling, encourage them to seek help as well.

I am here for you as well, need some encouragement or connection today, reach out :)

In closing, I trust that these recommendations will be helpful to you. Let go of the expectations of others and find your version of joy this holiday season.

My wish for you is that your world be filled with love and good cheer this holiday season 🎄

From my family to yours, wishing you a very Merry Christmas full of love, laughter, and amazing memories
